§ 30-31. Implementation of severe weather warning.

Latest version.
  • The following described warning signal shall be implemented to inform the populace to take protective action when the weather bureau has advised of the danger of tornadoes in the vicinity:

    (1)

All available sirens will give a three-minute signal of blasts. This refers specifically to the Union Point and Greensboro Fire Station sirens. Industrial organizations are requested to reinforce this signal by three minutes of short blasts on their whistles or similar devices. Any available loudspeakers should be used to give the warning message verbally.

    (2)

The warning of an approaching tornado may be received from the weather bureau by telephone or radio by the city hall and/or the sheriff's office in Greensboro. Each of these offices shall be responsible for ensuring that the other and the Greensboro city hall are immediately informed of such danger. A radio or telephone warning or an authoritative and unmistakable statement concerning the county over commercial radio shall be proper authority and basis to give the signal.
